2007/2008 MISSION PROJECTS IN ZAMBIA, AFRICA

 1.  THE HOUSE OF MOSES CRISIS NURSERY:  This is a rescue home in Lusaka, Zambia, providing a safety net for infants and young children in severe crisis, 24/7.  Cost per child is $7/day/child X 45 children = $9,450/month.  They have a social worker who helps find foster homes and orphanages.  The House of Moses was recognized as a “Best Practice Model” by the United Nations in 2003.

 2.  NAMUMU ORPHANAGE CENTER:  Namumu is a community-based program in Siavonga, Zambia with 80 children, and many more in dire need.  Care and support, formal education, and healthcare are provided for these orphaned children, and they are taught practical skills for future success. Cost is  $5/day/child X 80 children = $12,000/ month, minus grants received.

ZAMBIA GENERAL INFORMATION: With a population of 10 million, 80% live on less than $1 a day.  Almost half of Zambia’s children are so malnourished their growth has been stunted.  34% of primary aged boys and 52% primary girls are not in school.  One in five Zambians is infected with HIV and will likely die.  The majority of those who die are the parents of dependent children.  Over 1.2 million children are orphans, making Zambia the nation with the highest percentage number of orphans of the population.  Where will the help come from?  “… help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:2), and from those who reach out in love, partnership, and help.  Will you help these orphans?  www.theoutreachfoundation.org (Zambia)
