Joseph Overstreet
By Sally Clark
Meet new member Joe Overstreet, who “wandered through our doors” one day while searching for a local church. As Fate would have it, says Joe, he first came because we were the “only Presbyterian Church in town.” Joe feels comfortable as part of our congregation, and savors the search to find out more about us.
We are pleased to present some interesting facts about Joe. An active Merchant Marine, he has been known to spend up to four months at sea. With 22 years in military service, for a time he captained the famous Jamestown Ferry in Maryland, and served as chief engineer on a ship stationed in Miami, FL. For 11 years he navigated the Mississippi River aboard the Delta Queen before Katrina turned her into a floating hotel in Chattanooga. Recent leg problems have kept him land-bound; he anxiously awaits medical consent to launch once again. If received, he will ship out of a Maryland port in April.
